Bollenstreek

For most tourists, the adventure with the Netherlands begins in Amsterdam. It is a city of canals that is famous for its unique architecture, rich history and unusual atmosphere. But we will start our journey from the Bollenstreek region, located between Haarlem and Leiden, where the most beautiful flower fields are stretched. A visit to the garden of Keukenhof in Lisse, called the “garden of Europe”, is a must. On an area of 32 hectares, more than 7 million flowers bloom here, creating a fairy-tale landscape of colors and smells.

Beautiful cities of the Netherlands

Rotterdam, about which you can read in a separate article 😉 is a modern metropolis famous for its original architecture and the largest port in Europe. It is mandatory to see here the characteristic Kubuswoningen (Cube Houses) and the tower Euromast.

Another city is The Hague. Government headquarters and royal residence. Here you can also find the International Court of Justice. The city captivates with its elegant boulevards and museums, like Mauritshuis with Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl”.

Utrecht – a charming university city with a unique canal system that, unlike Amsterdam, has unique quays located below the street level.

It is also worth visiting Maastricht, one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, located in the south of the country, with an impressive architecture and atmosphere reminiscent of Belgium or France than typical Holland.

Kinderdiyk

Another and one of the most picturesque places in the Netherlands to visit when renting a car is Kinderdijk – a set of 19 historic windmills inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The windmills located near Rotterdam are not only a tourist attraction, but also a testimony to the centuries-old struggle of the Dutch with the element of water.

Zealand

Discovering the Netherlands, it is worth going to the southwest of the country, to the province of Zealand. It is an interesting region consisting of islands and peninsulas connected by impressive dams and bridges.
Particularly noteworthy is Delta Works – a complex of dams and dams that protect the Netherlands from floods, considered one of the wonders of modern engineering. The most impressive part of this system is the Oosterscheldekering dam, which is almost 9 kilometers long.
