What to see in Sicily in 3 days
About this is our offer what to see in 3 days in Sicily 🙂
The first day of our stay, it is worth taking a walk in the Baroque center of Catania, the second largest city in Sicily, where we can admire the characteristic buildings made of black volcanic stone. The centerpiece is the majestic Duomo Square with the impressive Cathedral of St. Anthony. Agatha and the famous fountain with an elephant (Fontana dell’Elefante), which is the symbol of this city. Nearby you will find the lively La Pescheria fish market – an authentic place where you can feel the real Sicilian atmosphere and get to know the daily life of the residents.
The next day is a tour of Syracuse, an ancient city with an impressive archeological park. This is where the Teatro Greco is located – a wonderfully preserved Greek theater from the fifth century BC. The heart of this city is the charming island of Ortigia – a picturesque old town with an elegant Duomo Square and the remains of the temple of Apollo, where walking through narrow streets we will reach the legendary Fountain of Arethusa. It is a picturesque source of fresh water, associated with the Greek myth of a nymph transformed into water by the goddess Artemida, where today you can admire the natural environment with wild papyri and swimming white ducks.
The third day of our stay in Sicily we can spend on exploring Taormina or go to Mount Etna 😉 Taormina is a charming town located on the east coast of Sicily, which is famous for its perfectly preserved ancient Greek theater. From here you will have a unique view of the Ionian Sea and the Mount Etna in the background. It is one of the most romantic places on the whole island. However, if you like adventures, you must definitely go to Mount Etna, the highest and most active volcano in Europe, which offers amazing landscapes of lunar lava fields and wonderful views of Sicily and the Mediterranean Sea. It is worth visiting Mount Etna with a guide who will not only ensure our safety, but also convey knowledge about the history of the eruption, volcanic formations and local mythology associated with this powerful symbol of Sicily.
Of course, when you are in Sicily you have to remember that Sicilian cuisine is a real feast! It is worth trying: arancini or fried rice balls with meat or cheese filling, pasta alla norma pasta with eggplant, tomato sauce and ricotta, and for dessert granita – Sicilian ice dessert, lemon is the best 😉
Practical tips
Remember that Sicily is warmest from May to October, but even in early spring and late autumn the temperatures are pleasant. It is best to book your hotel or hostel in advance, especially in the summer season. It is worth having cash with you, because not all small premises accept payment cards.
To sum up, such a short city break will allow you not only to taste Sicilian culture, cuisine and beautiful landscapes. Even in three days you can see a lot, although you will certainly want to come back for longer!
